My mission is to provide high quality mental health treatment and resiliency training to adolescents and adults. My approach offers holistic integration through Adventure-Based, Skill Development, and Mind-Body models.

Clients are active participants in their treatment. They develop skills by engaging in a variety of activities and outings that are sequenced into challenging formats. Clients acquire a mindset that is creative, industrious, and persistent.

The therapist forms a trusting relationship with clients that enable them to process their emotions and hone their instincts. Our relationship is deepened through engaging in outings and therapeutic activities, and over time clients find new solutions to their problems.

Testimonial

I have been working with Luke Monroe for two years and have been impressed and delighted with ways he has been able to reach the patients I have referred to him. His eclectic practice enables him to do traditional therapy when that seems best for a patient or do outdoor skill-building activities as part of therapy or engage a patient in a more unique therapeutic activity like creating an armored vest to protect him from harmful feelings. Luke’s gift at finding out what therapeutic strategies work for a patient makes him an exceptional therapist.

Mind/Body Therapy

The mind and body are inseparable entities. Historical traditions have always understood this to be the case and as a result developed healing rituals that involved learning from observing nature and releasing tension from the body. Today with the advent of neuroscience we know that the nervous system stores traumatic events in our bodies down to a cellular level. This form of therapy uses mind-body interventions to release this somatic energy and alleviate psychic pain.

Adventure-Based Therapy

Adventure-Based Counseling (ABC)  is a form of experiential therapy that involves engaging clients in activities and outdoor pursuits such as hiking, boating and snowshoeing. This approach explores the relationship between thoughts, triggers, and behaviors. Participants develop an adventurous spirit through learning to manage risk while discovering ways to be more present in their lives. ABC is an effective treatment for adolescents who suffer from depression, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder

Survival Therapy

Survival Therapy is an experiential therapy that develops and strengthens the mind-body connection. In Survival Therapy, clients learn techniques to identify inner resources. Tapping on these resources allow clients to achieve successful life skills.  By trusting one's instincts, clients will develop self-esteem and learn to embrace challenges. This style of therapy introduces participants to several primitive survival skills, including: basic woodworking, metal working and other therapeutic activities. Clients can expect to become more industrious and confident. This therapy targets adolescents diagnosed with anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD Autism and Spectrum Disorder.

Community-Based Resiliency Training

Additional services offered to the community include: Parenting sessions to assist parents struggling with behaviorally challenged teen, resiliency workshops to support youth, personal safety workshops to support vulnerable and victimized populations.
